Let’s talk

LIBERTARIAN PARTY

This speech by John Ruddick is the main reason I ran as a Libertarian and not an independent. John was elected to the NSW Legislative Council in 2023. His maiden speech to the NSW parliament made international headlines when it was banned from YouTube. Never before in Australian history has a politician's maiden speech to parliament been banned.

Gregory Harris has lived in the Upper Lachlan Shire for nine years, moving to Greenwich Park to escape the rat race and find a better life for his family. He works as a software architect, developing software that helps Accounting Firms, Financial Planners, and Business Advisers help their clients improve the operation of their businesses and increase their value.

Gregory's decision to run for the Upper Lachlan Shire Council was fuelled by his concern over their out-of-touch attempt to increase rates during the current economic downturn. He firmly believes that the council should prioritise reducing spending to balance its budget rather than burdening ratepayers who are already struggling due to inflation. He pledges not to support any rate increases or additional council fees until the cost-of-living crisis is over and is committed to supporting any rate reductions.

Gregory believes that you should be able to do what you wish on your property as long as it doesn't impact the property rights of others. He will always support your freedom to use your property however you choose. He also believes that the council should focus on the basics, such as roads, parks, and rubbish, instead of pushing the World Economic Forum woke agenda.

While he supports everyone's right to live how they please and love whoever they love, he won't support children being exposed to adult entertainers in the name of tolerance. He will oppose ratepayers funding any such event. His Christian values mean he will always stand up for the innocence of children. He won't support the legitimate concerns of locals being ignored.

CUT COSTS AND SLASH RATES

  • Get council back to basics
  • Privatise council-run business
  • Let grassroots community groups flourish
  • Remove services that would be better handled by community and the free market

Many have asked how a rate cut would be possible, given that the previous council wanted a 55% rate increase.

We must focus council spending on core services such as rubbish collection, parks, and roads and ensure that every cent is spent well.

That will set a new baseline for our spending, and any required rate adjustment should then be made to balance our budget. If we can decrease rates at point, we should. I cannot support an increase without widespread community consultation and support. We will clarify which services would need to be cut to balance the budget if rates are not increased.

PROMOTE PROPERTY RIGHTS

  • Remove unnecessary red tape
  • Support your right to use your property how you choose
  • Support development that does not affect another person's rights

  • Stop ratepayer funding of woke programs
  • Employ based on merit
  • Make 'acknowledgement' rituals optional
  • Reject climate alarmism
  • Freedom of speech
  • No compelled speech
  • Respectful communication

  • ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

I acknowledge the Traditional Owners, the Gundungurra people in the Upper Lachlan region, and all the people of our shire.

I acknowledge the convicts, settlers, residents and others who built and maintained the roads, houses, schools, churches, and stores in towns and villages in the early days of settlement.

I want to acknowledge those building and maintaining our roads with limited resources. We will fight to maximise our funding under the current model and replace it with a fair system. Our communities demand safe roads.

I want to acknowledge those working for the council. We will expand your numbers to ensure our residents get timely access to essential services.

I have gratitude and respect for the courageous men and women who have selflessly served our nation. Their sacrifices have safeguarded our freedom and ensured that the values we cherish continue to thrive for future generations.

I pay my respects to the RFS. I’m grateful for your service and courage and your protection.

I pay my respects to all who have contributed to their communities through service, charity, labour and those who fight for the cause of liberty.
